Brain & Brawn: High School Students use Squash to Heighten their Academics

One of our grantees, StreetSquash has been featured in the New York Times for their work in helping underserved youth get into college! StreetSquash uses Squash as a vehicle for assisting youth in developing skills in setting and accomplishing goals, determination, and time management. The intensive program requires that students show up for a rigorous weekly schedule of homework assistance, SAT prep, and Squash. Their work was also acknowledged a few months prior in the NY Daily News.

We at the Elmezzi team have enjoyed seeing the results produced by this model of pairing academics and athletics for underserved students. Like the two articles state, numerous other programs that are very similar in structure are popping up around the country, and the results of StreetSquash are a testament as to why.
