The Elmezzi Foundation was in the news again! Along with its grantees, Queens Library, Legal Outreach, and Sadie Nash Leadership Project the Foundation’s work and increasing commitment to Western Queens received coverage from NY1.
For anyone unfamiliar with our work, The Jeane Elmezzi Adult Learning Center at Queens Library Long Island City offers ESOL, High School Diploma Equivalency, computer literacy, citizenship classes and access to legal services among many other resources to adults in Western Queens. They are one of our long term grantees and their free programs are accessed by over 1000 individuals each year.
Legal Outreach and Sadie Nash Leadership Project are both operating summer pilot programs in Long Island City with Elmezzi funding this year. Legal Outreach is offering its Summer Law Institute for the first time in Long Island City, where students are taught crucial skills that help them embrace challenges, present themselves professionally, and develop skills necessary for success.
Sadie Nash’s Summer Leadership Institute LIC pilot program is one that directly serves young women from Western Queens and teaches them leadership skills, self-confidence, critical thinking, and presents them with other inspirational women to look up to as role models and mentors — many of which are from Western Queens themselves!
We’re very proud to be able to support such important work in our community, and we’re glad to see that participants of our grantee programs are truly gaining from and enjoying their experiences. Thank you NY1 for covering our work. Click on the thumbnail below to check out the clip that NY1 aired on our grantees and to hear more from the program directors and participants themselves!
