Elmezzi Visits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut!

Yesterday, Elmezzi staff was able to visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut (BBBSSWCT) site at The Geraldine W. Johnson School in Bridgeport, Ct.

During the visit, Elmezzi staff were informed about the programs that BBBSSWCT is able to implement as a grantee of the foundation. At this site, BBBSSWCT has matched 18 local high school students with 18 elementary school students – through this partnership the Bigs help the Littles with homework and keep them involved in extracurricular activities such as arts and crafts and sports once a week. Bigs are also required to be in good academic standing in order to qualify for the program and are given community service credit for the hours they contribute to BBBSSWCT.

While Elmezzi was visiting, the students were working on making bird feeders out of recycled plastic water bottles. The activity was both an arts and crafts exercise as well as a means for teaching students about Earth Day and the importance of recycling.

Head over to their website to check out more of the work they do!
