Medical Research & Care Program
The Foundation’s medical research grants are made predominantly at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System Foundation to advance the field of medical research and eventually make new breakthroughs in healthcare. The Foundation believes healthcare should be accessible to all, especially the disadvantaged.
In 2006, the Foundation committed to a ten year grant for the purpose of opening The Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine. The school is a unique program that confers the PhD degree in molecular medicine to highly trained young physicians who wish to pursue careers in biomedical research. Unlike the typical graduate program at universities or medical schools, the Elmezzi Graduate School offers an individually tailored, three-year program with a strong emphasis on translational research.
The Foundation’s medical care grants will be made predominantly within Long Island City and Astoria, as part of our community development initiative Project 126. Preventive interventions will be the focus of the portfolio. Likely partnerships will be with health clinics, schools, health education programs and local hospitals.
